Education Background
Keqiang Zhang began his academic journey with a BSc degree in Agricultural Microbiology from Huazhong Agricultural University 1990, followed by an MS degree in Environmental Engineering at Tianjin University 2000. He furthered his expertise by obtning a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the same university in 2005.
Research Areas
As an agro-environmental protection expert with over two decades of experience, Dr. Zhang's research encompasses innovative technologies for intensive livestock waste management and its agricultural utilization i, development of agricultural non-point pollution treatment strategies including policy-making, legislation, compensation mechanisms, administrative approaches, and evaluation criteria ii, and international collaborations med at sustnable agriculture.
Selected Projects
Dr. Zhang has led several national and local projects focusing on comprehensive agricultural waste management issues, notably:
As the key coordinator for PDSFI-A8A25 from 2009 to 2011 between China and the EU, he spearheaded project formulation, implementation, dissemination, and public awareness campgns, achieving significant outcomes with broad regional impact.
Key Technologies for Livestock Wastewater Resource Utilization and Irrigation, a 2006-2010 initiative funded by the Ministry of Agriculture MOA, where he oversaw program management and implementation.
Involvement in biogas policy and technology development under the Sino-Germany Sino-Australia bilateral cooperation programme, leveraging livestock waste and crop straw as feedstock.
Participation in the 948 MOA programme focusing on international collaboration in nano-water treatment technologies.
Leading a technical evaluation for Biogas Units Supported by the Yemen Special Foundation Development.
Management of eco-remediation efforts for intensive aquaculture wastewater under the FAO-funded program “Better Management of Freshwater Aquaculture in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province” in China.
Contribution to governmental initiatives promoting a joint laboratory between Chinese and Swedish academic agencies.
Current Projects
Dr. Zhang is currently heading projects such as:
Biogas Treatment and Utilization Technology Research Demonstration with Life Sludge 2013-2017, Non-profit Industrial Agricultural Research Project, funded by MOA.
Non-point Source Pollution Prevention Control Technology Integration in Intensive Agro-regions of North China, a 12th Five-Year National Science and Technology Support Program, sponsored by the Ministry of Environmental Protection MOEP.
Sino-EU Cooperation on Clean Production Technologies and Eco-compensation Policy for Climate Change, supported through cooperation between the Chinese Ministries of Commerce MOFCOM and Agriculture MOA, and EU DG AGRI.
Development of integrated technology utilizing three types of energy: biogas, straw gas, and solar power from 2016-2018.
