The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Hosts Pioneering Research Meeting to Celebrate Team Science's Role in Solving Major Biomedical Challenges

NORTH BETHESDA, MD, September 10, 2024In an era that underscores the necessity of collaboration for advancing medical research, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health FNIH is proud to host Team Science Day on September 16th at the Apella by Alexandria in New York City. This esteemed gathering will convene leading experts from the National Institutes of Health NIH, Food and Drug Administration FDA, biopharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and patient organizations to honor team science's paramount role in addressing some of our most pressing biomedical challenges.

The event highlight the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration and will include a series of keynote addresses, panel discussions, and informal networking opportunities focused on innovative approaches to tackling complex health issues such as cancer, obesity, major depressive disorders, women's health, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Notable speakers include Monica M. Bertagnolli, MD, who brings extensive experience in leadership across various large-scale cancer research collaborations while serving as the Director of the National Cancer Institute NCI at NIH. We are witnessing a golden age of scientific opportunities and tools, she says. To address today's complex biomedical challenges, we need multidisciplinary teams working together. No single lab or researcher can accomplish this on their own; public-private partnerships are essential for truly personalized medicine.

Dr. Julie Gerberding, President and CEO of the FNIH, emphasizes that Team Science Day is more than a retrospective celebrationit's also a call to collaborative action. Joining forces across disciplines and sectors enables us to build the connections necessary for biomedical breakthroughs that speed up discovery and bring solutions to patients more quickly, she explns.

In recognition of our partners who support this mission, including Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc.Alexandria Venture Investments, Pfizer, Ruder Finn, Deloitte, Genentech, PhRMA, Real Chemistry, Merck Co., Inc., and Takeda, we are deeply grateful.
